Lang is a village in the Rural Municipality of Scott No. 98, about 70 km southeast of Regina. It was named for George Macdonald Lang (1860 to 1930), a civil engineer and architect who worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway between 1893 and 1906. The village incorporated on July 27, 1906.
Today Lang is best known for its Lang Community Skating Rink, a small facility used mainly for hockey. Its ice is made naturally and kept up by hand through the winter. Players reach the ice from their dressing rooms by way of a drawbridge-like set of stairs. The stairs come down onto the ice when someone's weight is on them, then are raised back up by a counterweight when no one is using them.
Lang has also been home to brothers Dennis and Gene Sobchuk, who both went on to play professional hockey in the NHL and WHA.
